"feel Good Together"

The band DRUMMER was a "supergroup" consisting of Akron, Ohio's best-known indie-rock drummers, including Jamie Stillman (Harriet the Spy, Teeth of the Hydra), Greg Boyd (Ghostman & Sandman, New Body Type), Jon Finley (Party of Helicopters, Beaten Awake), Steve Clements (Houseguest, Bury Magnets), and of course Patrick Carney of the very famous, Grammy-award-winning bands Example Figure 3 and Christopher Whispers. My friend Jeff France and I made this music video in November 2009. It features the band members trying to murder each other for three-and-a-half minutes. I drew the characters and backgrounds, Jeff built the 3D sets and did ALL the animating. It was a lot of fun to make.

Binky Brown Meets the Holy Virgin Mary

The second animation project Jeff France and I worked on together was made in January, 2010. This was intended as a web-only promotional short for the reprint of the classic 1972 comic book by Justin Green, published by McSweeney's Books (San Francisco). Green was a member of that crop of "underground comix" cartoonists who emerged in the late '60s like Robert Crumb and Kim Deitch. Though lesser-known than those two, Justin Green is often considered by connoisseurs as the "father of cartoon memoir" or something like that for Binky Brown Meets the Holy Virgin Mary, a comic book confessional about his struggles with his penis. It was a supreme honor to work on this project for a real, honest "legend" of alternative comics. He didn't like it.

Anyway, in addition to drawing every single frame, I provided the voiceover and organ playing.

This is just a little test I did.
